SJ3 on 64-bit operating systems

Let's face it, SJ3 is ancient 16-bit software, which does not function directly on 64-bit operating systems such as Windows 7 64-bit. Porting SJ3 to a new platform is not an option, but fortunately SJ3 does work fine on 64-bit systems using DOS emulators such as DOSBox.

Running SJ3 with DOSBox

Dosbox is a free DOS emulator which can be used to run old programs. Use DOSBox to run SJ3 by following these instructions:

SJ3 on DOSBox
View screenshot
  1. Install the latest version of DOSBox. Download and run the DOSBox Windows installer.
  2. Install SJ3 if you haven't already.
Download and run the Windows installer. Please note your installation folder.
  3. Start DOSBox from your Start menu.
  4. At prompt "Z:\>" type:
mount c "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ski Jump International" and press Enter.
If your SJ3 installation folder is something other than the "Program Files...", replace that into the Dosbox command. Remember to quote the folder path so it functions correctly.
  5. Type: C: and press Enter.
  6. Type: SJ3 to start SJ3.

That's it. Use Alt-Enter to change the game to full screen.

Automation

To automate the DOSBox & SJ3 start-up, you can add the above lines 4-6 (the mount command, the c:-command and the SJ3-command) to the end of your dosbox.conf file (Start Menu->DOSBox->Options->DOSBox vx.xx Options) after the [autoexec] section.

Other systems

DOSBox works on other operating systems other than Windows, so you might be able to run SJ3 using DOSBox on them as well.

Future development

I will try to make a single installer for the SJ3 & DOSBox combination. This installer will be added here as soon as it's available.
