what's up?

The Past, Present and Future of SJ3 on January 5th 2001.

past

Whew, it's been busy. I took some time off the computer during the xmas holidays, so sorry if I've been slow to answer mail or something. I am really glad that the game has been accepted really well. The leading computing magazine in Finland, MikroBitti, chose the game to be its "Domestic Game of the Month" in their December 2000 issue. Many thanks. Also, there was a little article on the game and its author in the latest number of the Finnish magazine "Diplomica". Humbling.

present

An expected extra hurdle was swung my way a few weeks ago as the administrator of my school's internet services mailed me and told me that it was about time to move SJ3 out of the school web pages as the pages are causing too much traffic. I knew this was bound to happen some day since the rules clearly forbid commercial use of a great service that is free to all students.

So, now I am looking for good quality web hosting services at a low price. I have sent out requests for offers to almost all of the Finnish ISP's, but do email me, if you know of a good place SJ3 could call home in the future.

Presently I am trying to fit in some work for version 3.10 in my strangely busy schedule. About half of the work has been done, but there's a lot of testing and the usual hassle ahead, so don't expect a release within the next month.

future

Version 3.10 won't be too much of a change from v3.00, jumping will probably stay as it is to enable full comparability with the hiscores from v3.00. The number of allowed extra hills won't be 20 - like in v3.00 - but closer to 100, and replays will be finally included in the game. * Wait * it gets even better: The wonderful people who have registered will receive their update version from v3.00 to v3.10 absolutely free-of-charge! So don't hold back those registrations, you are guaranteed to be on the cutting edge of computer ski jumping in the future as well.

In The Cards for January 2001: v3.10 - replays, extra hills, user profiles; a new domain: www.sj3.org? www.sj3kicksass.com? www.skijumpinternational.com? Who knows. Stay tuned...

Thank you very much for your interest in the game!

This was up last year, before the apocalypse, the four housemen and the _real_ millennium :)
